KYOROOGI:
The current USAT & WTF competition rules will govern this championship. The Organizing Committee may modify some rules according to the local conditions. It also reserves the right to combine or divide weight categories depending on the size of the group. Competitors 11 years old and younger are NOT ALLOWED kicks to the head. Any attempt of kicking to the head with light contact may result in a warning, point deduction and or disqualification.

Competitors 12 years old to 17 years old will use power control when attempting to kick to the head. Competitors 18 years and up will be able to use full contact when attempting to kick to the head. Head kicks for the juniors (light contact only) will be allowed in addition to head kicks for senior divisions. However, if referee and judges feel an injury was due to a malicious attack (with anger or the intent to injure), the attacker will be disqualified.

 

JUNIOR KYOROOGI SAFETY SPARRING  RULES:

No Head Contact

Ages 7 & Under (All Belts) and Ages 11 & Under (Color Belts)

a. Any contact to the head area which does not make any injury will be given a warning by the referee.

b. Any contact which makes injury to the head area will result in a one-point deduction

c. If the competitor cannot continue because of the injury to head area, the attacker will be disqualified.

Ages 8-11 (Black Belts), 12-14 (Black Belts and Color Belts) and 15-17 Junior Division (Color Belts)

a. The competitor is allowed to kick to the facial area; however, the kick must be light contact with absolute control w/o causing any injury or excessive contact, or penalty shall be invoked.

b. The competitor who executes a successful technique shall be awarded three-point.

c. The competitor who executes a kick to the face which results in a minor injury shall receive a one-point deduction.   A minor injury is defined as abrasion or bleeding caused by non-excessive contact

d. The competitor who executes a kick to the face which results in the inability of the opponent to continue sparring because of injury shall be disqualified.

Ages 15-17 Yr Old  Junior Black Belts and Senior Division (All Belts)

a. Excessive contact to the head area:  even in te absence of visible injury, such ass light bleeding or abrasion, the referee may deem the contact to be excessive and declare the appropriate penalty.  Competitor who executes a successful technique to the face (light contact w/o causing any injury) shall be awarded three-point.

b. 8-Count:  The referee should not give an 8-count for any technique, even a legal one, to the head area; if a kick to the head is powerful enough to warrant an 8-count, it should be considered excessive and the appropriate penalty should be declared.   However, the referee can and should begin and 8-count for a legal kick to the trunk area that results in a knock-down condition.

c. Turning Kicks:  Turning kicks to the head will not be awarded an extra point in junior division.  Bonus point only in Senior divisions.  Successful turning kicks to the body shall be awarded two-points in all Junior sparring divisions.

RULES FOR SPARRING COMPETITION

Head kicks are 3 points. Turning kicks are 2 points (back kick, or narabang). Turning kick to head are 4 points. Punches and regular body kicks are 1 point.  There is no 12-point ceiling or 7-point gap.  Blocking with leg when opponent initiates kick is a warning.  Two feet that cross the plane of the boundary line is out.  Referee calls “Fight” after 5 seconds of inactivity.  After 10 more seconds of inactivity the athlete who has give up ground by backing up will receive a warning.


Note:  Tournament director may change the time limit and alter weight division if necessary to ensure fairness and maintain safety.

 

 

   

Competition Poomsae

WTF FORMAT COMPETITION SPORT POOMSAE:

The World Taekwondo Federation has developed an International Poomsae competition format that is used in the WTF World Poomsae Championships.  The competition consists of Individual, Pairs and Team divisions Black Belts 10 year and older only.

The Method of Competition starts with Preliminary round: When 20 or more contestants are participating; competition shall start from preliminary round. Contestants shall perform the two (2) assigned compulsory Poomsae predetermined by the tournament committee, the top 50 percent of participants will be qualified for the next round. Semi-Final round: When 9 to 19 contestants are participating;

Contestants shall perform the two (2) assigned compulsory Poomsae predetermined by the tournament committee and, eight (8) of them shall be advanced to final based on their points. Final: When 8 or fewer contestants are participating; competition shall start from final round. Contestants shall perform the two (2) assigned compulsory Poomsae predetermined by the tournament committee. The ranking of the top three (3) of each category will be decided by the results of their performance.

 

1st - 2nd - 3rd place winners from Competition Poomsae Individual/Pair/Teams division can compete on SUNDAY in the Grand Championship Division to win an all expense paid trip to compete at the Korea Open Championship!

1 male and 1 female will be selected to win.  15 years and older only.

Sunday Sparring

SUNDAY SPARRING INFORMATION

Sunday Sparring competition for Black Belts in Cadet 12-14, Junior 15-17 and Senior 18-32 divisions.

The International Taekwondo Festival will be the first tournament in the United States to debut the WTF approved KP&P electronic body protector system. All Sunday competitors will be competing using the electronic hogu system.  Competitors will have the option to either buy or rent the electronic socks needed for this system. Electronic socks will be available to buy for $50 or rent for $5.

Weigh-in is MANDATORY for all Black Belts in Cadet, Junior and Senior Sparring division.  We will be recording athlete foot size for electronic socks and hogu size to be printed on the badge.


Weigh-in is on Saturday, May 25 at the tournament venue from 3pm-7pm.

 

KOREA TRIP PRIZE INFORMATION


8 SPARRING WINNERS AND 2 COMPETITION POOMSAE WINNERS will earn an all expense paid trip to compete at the Chuncheon Korean Open International Taekwondo Championship.  The Korea Open is a WTF sanctioned G-2 event and the trip will include airfare, meals, lodging, excursions, cross training with famous Taekwondo Universities and highschools, sightseeing and more. This prize is possible with the support from the Ministry Culture Sport and Tourism.

 


8 SPARRING WINNERS. The 1st place winners in each Olympic weight division will win the Korea trip prize.  4 male and 4 female in the Fin/Fly, Feather/Bantam, Light/Welter, Middle/Heavy division.


2 COMPETITION POOMSAE WINNERS will also be selected to compete at the Chuncheon Korean Open International Taekwondo Championship.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the Competition Poomsae Individual, Pairs and Team competition will be invited to compete on Sunday at the Grand Championship Competition Poomsae Individual competition.  Athlete must be 15 years or older to qualify for the Korea trip prize.

 

RULES OF ELIGIBILITY

 

  1. There must be a full division of minimum of 4 athletes to be able to qualify for the Korea Trip prize.
  2. The Korea trip prize is non-transferable and no cash value.  If the 1st place winner is not able to go we will select the 2nd place winner or who is qualified.
  3. Competition Poomsae winners must be 15 years or older to be eligible.
  4. Winner must be a Kukkiwon black belt and US citizen.
  5. Korea trip flight will depart from LAX airport.  It is individual responsibility to find transportation to leave with the team from LAX.
